CHINNOR & DISTRICT ROYAL BRITISH LEGION CRIBBAGE LEAGUE
 
LEAGUE RULES
 
THE LEAGUE & THE LEAGUE COMMITTEE
1)         The League shall be known as Chinnor & District Royal British Legion Cribbage League (CDRBL Cribbage League).
2)         The League Committee shall consist of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and a maximum of six other elected members.  Elections will take place annually at the AGM.
3)         Committee Meetings may only be attended by elected Committee members and other invited persons.
4)         The League will be divided into three sections Singles, Pairs and Overall (Combined)
5)         At its discretion, the Committee may organise the League into one, two or more division’s, dependent upon the number of teams entering in any season.
6)         Matches shall be played on Mondays, with games commencing at 8.00pm
7)         Each team shall pay a weekly match fee as set out in the fees schedule.
 
REGISTRATIONS & TRANSFERS
8)         Each team shall register a minimum of 5 players who shall each pay a fee as set out in the fees schedule.
9)         One player on each team will be designated captain and registered as such, other team members can act as team captain only in the absence of the designated captain.
10)       All players must be registered prior to playing in any match and be issued with an official registration card.
11)       No additional registrations will be accepted after 31st December without Committee approval.
12)       Player(s) may be transferred only once and then only before the end of the first half of the season (last League game of first half). All applications to transfer must be made to the League Secretary.
 
GENERAL PLAYING RULES
13)      Matches shall generally be played to the rules set out in The Penguin Book of Card Games with regard to scoring during the play and the show.  The following rules shall supplement, override or supersede those rules for the purposes of the CDRBL Invitation Cribbage League.
14)      Each match shall comprise of 4 Singles games and 2 Pairs games.
15)      Each game will consist of three legs and all three legs must be played
16)      Each leg is scored to 121 points (twice round the board)
17)      In all cuts picture cards rank as 10 and an Ace ranks as 1 (Ace is low)
18)      Participants in each game shall be drawn from the registration cards; opposition captains can reject any registration cards that have been altered or changed in any way.
19)      A player can only play once in the Singles and once in the Pairs in each match, unless a team is “short”. See the PLAYER SHORTAGE section for the applicable rules.
20)      Cut for box in 1st and 3rd legs- lowest cut takes the first box in the first hand, which then alternates between teams.
21)      The player losing the cut in the 1st leg takes the first box in the second leg.
22)      No points are awarded to the player who does not have the first box in each leg.
23)      Cards must be shuffled after each hand and the dealer must offer the cards to be cut by his opponent prior to each deal.
24)      The deal shall be
•           Singles: 5 cards to be dealt to each player, then a further 2 cards into the box, which is completed by a discard from each player.
•           Pairs: 5 cards to be dealt to each player who will discard 1 card each to form the box. Back cut prior to each hand, forward cut for turn-up.  The box will pass to the left after each hand.
25)      A player dealt a card face-up can call a miss-deal
26)      Jack scores 2 points “for his heels” to the box-holder if cut as the turn-up card
27)      A leg can be won with a jack-cut if 2pts or less are required.
28)      Runs may be made in any order until the sequence is broken or no further plays are possible.
29)      No cards should be collected from the table until the scores have been agreed
30)      No points are scored for pointing out a shortfall in your opponent’s hand. 
31)      Team captains can be asked to check a players score if it cannot be agreed by those playing the hand;
32)      No other persons should comment upon the point’s declarations, whether taken or missed.

PLAYER SHORTAGE
33)      Where a team turns up with less than the minimum required to play the match, all games must still be played, with players from the 'short' team playing a second game
34)      Any legs won in these games by the “short” team will not be eligible to score points
35)      The player(s) required to play more than once should be drawn from the team registration cards by the opposing captain
36)      The results card must clearly show the details of the default.
37)      A full match fee will still be due as per the fees schedule.
 
INCOMPLETE MATCH
38)      Where it is not possible to complete all games by the end of the evening’s play, the outstanding legs will be decided by the captains cutting the cards; low cut is deemed to win the leg.
39)      The results card must clearly show the details of which legs were decided by cut.
40)      A full match fee will still be due as per the fees schedule.
 
SCORING AND LEAGUE POSITION
41)      One point is scored in each section for every leg won.
42)      In each section, league position is determined by the highest number of points followed by the highest number of wins, followed by the highest number of draws, followed by the fewest number of losses. If teams are still tied at this point, then points scored in the league matches between the teams will be used to determine position.
43)      At the end of the season if teams remain tied and are in a position where they can win an award, then a playoff or playoffs will take place to determine final positions (see below)
44)      For the purpose of determining whether a team has won lost or drawn, the following will apply in each section
•           Singles – Seven points or more equates to a win, five points or less equates to a loss & six points equals a draw.
•           Pairs – Four points or more equates to a win, two points or less equates to a loss & three points equals a draw.
•           Overall – Ten points or more equates to a win, eight points or less equates to a loss & nine points equals a draw.
45)      These rules will be applied to the actual points recorded for each team in a match, even when the fixture is completed under the PLAYER SHORTAGE or INCOMPLETE MATCH rules.
 
RESULT CARDS
46)      All Result Cards must be fully completed and signed by the captains of both teams after each match. 
47)      The Home team captain is responsible for notifying the League Secretary of the result of each match
48)      Notification may be done by post, telephone, text message or E-mail, but should be done by mid day on the Friday following the game.
49)      Failure to notify a result may lead to the forfeiture of points as described below.
50)      All signed Result Cards must be retained by team captains or sent to the League Secretary as they will be required in the event of any dispute over scores
 
POSTPONED/RE-ARRANGED MATCHES
51)      Any team unable to play on the allotted night due to inclement weather should notify their opponents as soon as it becomes apparent that they will not be able to fulfil the fixture
52)      Any team unable to play on the allotted night due to any other circumstance must notify their opponents at the earliest opportunity, but no later than 1 hour before the match. Failure to give adequate notice will result in the defaulting team forfeiting points
53)      The Captains shall be responsible for agreeing on a re-arranged date and the League Secretary must be informed of the re-arranged date.
54)      Failure by respective teams to either offer or accept dates will result in points forfeiture

PLAYOFF MATCHES
55)      If a playoff match is required, it will take place at a venue agreeable to both teams
56)      The playoff match will follow the normal league format & rules for the respective section which is tied i.e. 4 singles games of three legs and/or 2 pairs games of three legs
57)      If there is a further tie at the end of normal play the following shall apply:
•           SINGLES/OVERALL - A further leg shall be played between the Captains.
•           PAIRS - A further leg shall be played between Captains and his nominated partner
 
CUP/KNOCKOUT MATCHES
58)      The committee may arrange Cup or Knockout competitions at their discretion
59)      Such competitions will be outside the scope of the league, but will be played to the same rules and conditions unless otherwise stated
60)      Any entry fees for such competitions will be set by the committee
 
WITHDRAWAL FROM THE LEAGUE
61)      Any team which withdraws from the league for whatever reason, after the fixture list has been issued, will be expunged from the league records
62)      For any league fixtures completed or partially completed at the time of the withdrawal, all points gained, by the withdrawing team’s opponents will be removed from the records and matches will not be counted as wins, draws or losses for the purposes of deciding final league positions
63)      Any un-played matches along with all future fixtures involving the withdrawing team, will be treated as byes by the opposition team
64)      The withdrawing team will not be eligible to participate in any Cup or Knockout competitions arranged by the committee under rule 58, either as individuals or as a team. 
65)      If the team or a team member had previously won through in an earlier round of any such competition, the team or individual that was beaten in the previous round will be reprieved and will take the place of the withdrawing team or team member in any subsequent rounds
66)      Any monies received by the league from the withdrawing team at the time of the withdrawal will be forfeit
 
PROTESTS & PENALTIES
67)      Protests regardless of their nature must be made in writing to the League Secretary.
68)      Protests resulting from Incidents other than Committee decisions must be made within 7 days of the incident.
69)      Protests over Committee decisions must be made within 7 days of the receipt of the decision.
70)      A representative from the protesting team may be invited to attend a Committee meeting to support the protest.
71)      The standard penalty for a rule infringement will be a point’s deduction of 2pts from the Singles total, 2pts from the Pairs total and 4pts from the Overall total.
72)      Other penalties will be decided by the committee as required
 
FINALS NIGHT
73)      The committee will arrange a night after the end of the regular season to confirm the final positions in each section. 
74)      At the discretion of the committee, trophies may be awarded to the teams winning, finishing second and finishing last in each section, along with trophies to the winners and runners up of any knockout or cup competitions played during the season.
75)      At the discretion of the committee, there may also be individual awards made to the members of winning the teams.
